Ingredients
- 2-3 cups of lentils
- Water
- 1/2 tsp chilli powder
- 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- 1/2 tsp cumin
- 1/2 tsp coriander powder
- 1 green chilli
Tarka Ingredients
- 1 onion
- 25g butter
- 1/2 close garlic
- 1 Tbsp whole black cumin
- Coriander leaves
Method
- Wash lentils until the water runs clear
- Put lentils in a saucepan and fill with 2x more water for each cup of lentils
- Add all spices and simmer once the water has boiled
- Meanwhile, in a frying pan, add the onions, oil, garlic and fry until brown
- When coloured, turn off the heat and add the cumin seeds
- The daal in the pot should have enlarged and soaked up most of the water. Turn the heat off.
- Once the onions have cooled, add to the daal. Stir and add the garam masala and coriander to garnish
